3-1/2" x 14" strip
Subcut strip into four 3-1/2" squares.
1-1/2" x 6" strip
Subcut strip into one 1-1/2" x 3" rectangle and two 1-1/2"
squares
Sew
the longer rectangles together along one long edge (as shown at left)
in a scant 1/4" seam, pressing seams to the darker sides. Cut this
apart at the 1-1/2" point to make two pieced units. Sew the 1-1/2"
squares together as well, again using a scant 1/4" seam allowance
and pressing to the dark sides. Sew these units all together to make a
nine patch unit.
Now
lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing
to the dark. Join the rows to finish off your Dutch Nine Patch block!
Here are four blocks by five with pieced and plain borders!
This quilt, when finished, has a really neat secondary pattern!!
